Corbis via Getty Images FC Barcelona have announced "better figures than expected" on Thursday, with an after-tax net profit of €304 million ($320 million) made in 2022/23. Furthermore, as claimed in an official club statement , the Catalans currently run by president Joan Laporta and his board have reduced net debt for the second year in a row. During the mentioned season, which Barca finished as La Liga champions for the first time in four years, the club achieved operating income of €1.259 billion ($1.3 billion) with operating expenses of €1.165 billion ($1.3 billion). Barca said that the results were achieved "in a season that will go down in history for the record operational figures in the commercial and venue operation sections". "The club has made improvements in all lines of business, recording figures higher than expected in each of them," it added. On a commercial level, Barca had 43% growth with an all-time record revenue of €351 million ($370 million). As for its venue operations, Barca closed the year with a total revenue of €229 million ($242 million), which was 14% higher than budgeted and 8% more than what that recorded in the 2018/19 season which was the last full campaign before Covid temporarily closed sports stadiums worldwide. Barca highlighted that the "significant increase in turnover" at their Camp Nou home, which is currently being renovated, is "especially remarkable". This is because the €121 million ($128 million) generated in income was a product of the first ever season where a million tickets to see the men's team in action were sold. Barca managed to achieve a record 20 sponsorships in 2022/2023 as Barca Licensing & Merchandising (BLM) recorded a 54% increase in sales in physical stores compared to the previous year. The board's overall assessment of the club's balance is "positive", despite "the intensification of measures to cut spending implemented since the beginning of the current mandate". The board stressed that the net debt "has been reduced for the second consecutive season, dropping from €680 million ($718 million) as of 30 June 2021 to the current €552 million ($583 million) as of 30 June 2023". As for 2023/2024, the club projected revenue of €859 million ($907 million) and a profit of €11 million ($11.6 million) before taxes, which jas already been framed within the Feasibility Plan. Lastly, the board said that there has been an "excellent outcome" in the summer transfer window, which produced "a very solid-looking men's first team" that is "already showing that it can compete strongly at the highest possible level".
