British Restaurant Awards has named Broad Street Indo-Persian spot Qavali the best in Birmingham . The dining venue and bar, which serves up afternoon tea as well as brunch, stews and curries, was up against stiff competition, including three of the city's five Michelin Star-holders . Ten restaurants were shortlisted for the award but Qavali was named best in the city at an awards ceremony held in
London on Tuesday, September 5. Top-rated Adams, Purnell's and Opheem were in the running, as were relative newcomers to the scene The Mayan and Orelle . Piccolino at Brindleyplace , Umami in Harborne and The Wilderness in the Jewellery Quarter were also nominated in the category, as were Tattu in the city centre.
