Actress who played the boldly sex-positive Samantha through six seasons and two movies of “Sex and the City” but who has been glaringly absent from the show’s revival, to many fans’ dismay, will appear in one scene of its second season, the streaming service Max confirmed Thursday. The reboot, called “And Just Like That,” has followed the other three leading actors — Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis — as their characters navigated the relationship, career and family drama of their mid-50s. The question of whether Cattrall would return had been hanging over the show since its inception: She had declined to take part in a third film, and rumors of a feud between Parker and Cattrall had swirled for years. On Thursday, Variety that in the upcoming season of the series on Max (previously known as
HBO Max), Cattrall will make her return, but only in one scene — a phone conversation with Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw — that was filmed separately from the other stars. A representative for Cattrall did not immediately return a request for comment. Fans and critics had bemoaned the loss of Samantha, who was frequently a source of comic relief, in the reboot. with a

London, and in one episode, viewers saw her character in the form of a few text message bubbles to Bradshaw, including one with a bit of bawdy humor. Since the end of “Sex and the City,” Cattrall has starred in “Filthy Rich,” a short-lived Fox show in which she played a founder of a Christian television network, and appeared in “How I Met Your Father,” another reboot of a beloved series. She last year that she had decided against returning to the “Sex and the City” franchise because she did not want “to compromise what the show was to me,” saying, “It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough.”
