They led that locker room and everyone followed, everyone got in lockstep. “Now in a vacuum of those leaders being gone, there wasn’t anyone to step up and make sure that Jalen Carter showed up to practice on time, practiced hard. Our colleague, Todd McShay, mentioned it before the news came out about the accident, but there were concerns about football character with Jalen Carter. It was like, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.’ It was pretty good.” Asked if the ex-teammate had good or bad things to say about Carter, Campbell said, “It’s interesting.” Along with Campbell, Miller said Carter would benefit from joining a Lions team that has “a great leader” in defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, a strong coaching staff littered with ex-NFL players, and a defensive line full of players “who’ve just worked their tails off to get where they are.” “If we want to talk about, hey, where is that soft landing spot for Jalen Carter that’s realistic where he can be best set up for success, I think this is the early realistic spot for me,” Miller said.
