Paul Hurst believes there needs to be a “mentality shift” with some of the Grimsby Town squad for the team to make the most of what is still to come this season. The Mariners drew for the third time in a row in the league on Tuesday night, sharing the points with Crawley Town in the game in which they created more than enough chances to take all three. Hurst is determined for the club to finish their first season back in the
Football League as strongly as possible, but, speaking amidst the frustration of having victory snapped away at Crawley, believes something needs to change in the team’s mindset for that to happen. We’ve talked about how things are going to have to change in terms of the winning mentality, and we need to see that. I think that a team has got a group of absolute winners in it would’ve come away with a handsome victory [in the Crawley game].” Victory at Broadfield Stadium would have taken Town to the 50-point mark. Life goes on for the team with plenty of games left to play to get there, but it is about more than that for Hurst who saw the Crawley game as an opportunity not taken by some of his players. The Mariners boss said: “In terms of the overall need for points, Crawley probably needed them more than we did but you still want to get [to 50 points] because it is a bit of a landmark in terms of survival whether you need that many or not. “It would’ve been another box ticked off, and it is also an opportunity to climb the table, so we’re almost messing around rather than taking advantage of that. Some lads came on and got some minutes that maybe haven’t featured that much, but in truth, I got more answers but maybe not in the positive sense with some. “I’m always learning, and I’ve got some decisions to make ahead of the weekend again because some players did perform well and there are others that haven’t featured that have done nothing wrong in terms of their performances.” READ NEXT 'Disappointing' - Harry Clifton on Crawley Town draw as Grimsby Town let dominance slip Paul Hurst's Grimsby Town frustration as lack of ruthless edge brings draw at Crawley Town Grimsby Town player ratings with Harry Clifton strike not enough to earn win at Crawley Town Late Crawley Town penalty sees Grimsby Town draw third league game in a row Crawley Town 1-1 Grimsby Town highlights: Mariners draw again due to late penalty
