Women have beaten Oxford to win the 77th Women's Boat Race. The Light Blues controlled the race from start to finish to claim their sixth consecutive victory in the competition. The race, which took place on the Championship Course on the River Thames, saw no Olympians on either crew this year. Cambridge president Caoimhe Dempsey was the only returnee for either university. Despite a strong start from Oxford, Cambridge crept ever closer and quickly clawed back the lead. By the halfway point, the defending champions were well ahead and eventually steered to victory. However, the protest was dismissed and the celebrations could start for Cambridge. Speaking to the
BBC, Caoimhe Dempsey said: "It was a tough race. There was so much going on, the girls were tenacious and brave. We have girls with so many different experiences. I am very proud."
