A Grimsby man who is met with the sight of rubbish every time he leaves his house feels "fobbed off" after landowner LHP failed to clean up the mess, despite making promises to do so. Empty beer cans, broken glass, and used nappies are among the pile of fly-tipping that has plagued Larch Crescent (formerly St Mawes Crescent) in Grimsby on and off for the last decade. Residents say they have also seen broken pushchairs, trollies and takeaway boxes dumped there. Steven Hallberg, who lives on nearby Thornhill Gardens, says he is "disgusted" by the mess that his property looks out directly onto. It's been like this for many years. The overgrown scrubland protrudes onto most of the pavement, and people have to walk on the road itself with big potholes because they can't walk on the paving - there's glass all over the place. It's left for anyone to chuck stuff there. "Whenever I come out of the house I see it, I'm right at the back of it. I just see how disgusting it looks, it devalues the area and I don't want my property devalued. I have to look over that scrubland and you can see how overgrown and ugly it looks." Steven said he feels he is being 'fobbed off' by LHP (Image: GrimsbyLive/Donna Clifford) A spokesperson for LHP subsequently told Grimsby Live that the fly-tipping would be cleared "within the next fortnight" - but Steven says this did not happen. "If they don't want to do it don't make claims that they will. It's not been cleared up, and it makes me feel like I can't trust them. I feel like I'm being fobbed off," he said. Steven said cleaning up the mess is "not enough" to tackle the ongoing problem, and that a better solution would be to build something on the land. He explained: "It's all scrubland, they should have built on that many years ago. It just encourages vermin. If it had been properly built upon, this wouldn't have happened. It's not solving the problem, it's just putting a temporary plaster over it. There should be something built over it or a park for the kids. It's a state. The solution is not to tidy it up because every time that happens, it just happens again." A spokesperson for LHP said: “We conducted an inspection of the land on Freshney Green on Thursday 9 March. We subsequently met with our Grounds Maintenance contractor to review the situation. Whilst some works were carried out on the overgrown areas, further invasive works were deemed necessary due to the extent of clearing required to ensure safe access to the land. “Our Grounds Maintenance contractor will commence these works on Friday 24 March using their plant and machinery.
