Disused listed building to get new lease of life as apartments and shops
A disused Grade II listed building in Epworth will be brought back into use as two apartments and two shops. North Lincolnshire Council granted planning permission on Friday, March 17, for the conversion of 2-4 Albion Hill into two first-floor market apartments and the creation on the ground floor of two commercial units. The building used to be home to a gift shop, and then a housed cafe and kitchen on the first floor. But this closed as the owner's health declined and it has been vacant ever since. The property has "has begun to fall into disrepair" with visible signs of worsening building fabric, say Isle Design Architecture in a planning application document. There is also to be a single-storey rear extension and an external stairway at the back for access to the apartments and an effective courtyard space that will be created. The building was given Grade 2 listed status in 1987. It was originally built in the early 19th century. New Holland Dock expanding its capacity New Holland Dock is seeking permission to repair and reconstruct its bullnose to expand its shipping capacity. It is expected by doing so, it will improve navigation, and deepen and widen the dock allowing for greater time for ship access. New Holland Dock was originally built in 1848. (Image: GrimsbyLive/Donna Clifford) The dock has two bullnoses and it is proposed to remove the eastern one as it is no longer needed. Its removal and infilling of the inset section of the dock wall will allow for the increasing of the tidal window for ships and the potential for two ships to be berthed at the same time. New Holland Dock was built by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincoln Railway in 1848. Roman pottery fragments were found at the dock in the 19th century, suggesting perhaps even earlier use as as stopping off point for vessels. The telegraph poles are coming The UK government has committed to working with providers for the roll-out of gigabit capable broadband to 85 per cent coverage by 2025, and the majority of the population to have 5G access by 2027. So it is perhaps not surprising the infrastructure linked to that ambition is spreading. But in the last few weeks, there have been three separate applications in North Lincolnshire for telegraph poles. These are a 20m pole on the grass verge of The Flarepath, Elsham , a 15m pole in Ashfield Park, Scunthorpe , and a 20m pole on the pavement at Howe Lane, Goxhill . All proposals are effectively by the same company. CK Hutchison Networks Ltd are behind the Elsham and Goxhill applications. Three is the listed applicant for Scunthorpe. However, CK Hutchison are a Hong Kong-based multinational conglomerate who aside from also owning Superdrug, own Three too. Howe Lane, Goxhill, where a proposed 20m telegraph pole for 5G coverage is planned on the pavement on the lefthand side. (Image: GrimsbyLive/Donna Clifford) All three telegraph poles are for the provision of 5G. Each application has a number of supporting documents, highlighting both government support for 5G and to allay health concerns. New wetland area in Brigg Finally, there are plans for a new wetland in a 134sq m site in Woodbine Park, Brigg . The council has applied to convert a small meadow into a wetland to act as a dispersion zone for run-off from neighbouring properties.
