Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has suggested Jadon Sancho would benefit from the Reds signing a 'better' right-back in the summer transfer window. Sancho has so far struggled at Old Trafford since joining United from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 for around £73million. He spent time away from the first-team squad earlier this season, with Reds boss Erik ten Hag admitting the
England international was not physically or mentally in the right state to play. The 22-year-old was reintroduced to the squad in February and got on the scoresheet twice last month in the
Premier League - against Leeds United and Leicester City. The attacker, who has registered five goals and an assist this season, has showed glimpses of his quality but he will be looking to rediscover his best form in the coming months. Asked if Sancho has done enough this season, Scholes told BT Sport: "Not yet I don’t think, I still think there’s a lot more to come from him. He obviously had his issues and problems that the manager dealt with, he came back and scored a couple of goals. I still think there’s a player in there, he just needs the right players around him. "Remember at Dortmund before, he had a flying right-back going on all the time, which really helped him because he’s not a quick player, he’s more of a skilful player who wants to play
Football, he wants to play with his centre-forward and right-back. If United can possibly find a better right-back it might make him a different proposition." Sancho came off the bench in United's Europa League win over Real Betis on Thursday night, replacing Marcus Rashford, who scored the only goal of the game. There is a chance he could start for the Reds in the FA Cup quarter-final clash with Fulham on Sunday, with Antony unlikely to have recovered from illness and Alejandro Garnacho sidelined with an injury.
