Turkish Restaurant, in Bearwood, regularly receives praise for its customer satisfaction Sign up to our email newsletter for daily updates on what's happening in and around Birmingham We have more newsletters Customer satisfaction is the most important part of a meal at any restaurant , combining price, food and service all into one. If you can keep people satisfied and wanting to come back for more, you’ve got something special. And if a restaurant is annually recognised for that customer satisfaction, well, you have my attention. And a Turkish restaurant in Bearwood is known for exactly that. This year, Mount Nemrut was again listed in the
British Kebab Awards, an awards ceremony that highlights the best kebabs across the country. Previously the restaurant had won the Customer Satisfaction Award in 2020 and 2021, and this year they were nominated once again in the same category. There’s no doner kebab here, instead chicken and lamb is prepared to perfection on a charcoal grill. Whether it’s Nigerian food at Hamaran 9Ja or Brazilian at Brasilporto, Bearwood now has a number of outstanding restaurants that are worth your time. As I walked up the steps into the Turkish restaurant, I was hit with familiarity. Mount Nemrut entrance Despite looking different, Mount Nemrut has nailed the cosy aesthetic of a family restaurant. It instantly took me back to my time visiting The Karczma - which has sadly since closed down. It felt like you were walking into someone’s home rather than a restaurant with Turkish
music, friendly service and decorations welcoming you with every step. Everything here is intentional, even the way the bottles were colour coordinated - you are meant to feel at home here. Mount Nemrut is another gem in the Bearwood food scene Now let’s get to the food. Before me and a friend tackled kebabs, we were treated to complimentary bread with garlic and chilli sauce, alongside some olives. Unlike restaurants where the bread basket is forgettable, this was piping hot and soft, a good start. I went with my friend Jordan, who not only can eat, but has won food challenges in the past. Despite the Nemrut Special being listed for two to three people, we knew that a third person would only be an unnecessary bystander to our meal. So let’s talk about what makes the Nemrut Special special. Lamb shish kebab, chicken shish kebab, lamb kofta, chicken beyti kebab, chicken wings and lamb ribs served with rice and salad is the answer. Priced at £41.95, this is not a cheap meal. However, between two people, I would definitely agree that the portion size was acceptable. Chicken wings at Mount Nemrut We also ordered the Nemrut Delight, grilled onions and mushrooms in a special sauce which looked a lot like hibiscus. Starting with that dish, it was a light, flavourful meal which acted as a nice contrast for what was to come. Having clicked on this story, you will have seen the Nemrut Special. A mountain of charcoal grilled meat on rice and salad, it looked out of this world, and it tasted it. There’s a number of reasons why Mount Nemrut is the best Turkish restaurant I’ve been to in
England. I think the biggest one, for me, was the seasoning. Grilled chicken and lamb is already going to be a great dish, but the chefs here go one step further with their herbs and spices. There’s absolutely no reason why you need any dips, the seasoning provides enough flavour for you to be satisfied. Outside of the kebabs, Jordan prides himself as a chicken wing connoisseur. These wings earned a 9/10 in his scale. He said: "Usually when I eat a chicken wing, if it’s non-breaded, I want the skin to still be crispy. For it to retain its golden brown colour, it provides a slight tinge of smokiness and is both moist and juicy." He was satisfied, I was satisfied, the customers were satisfied. Well, at least two of us were. I’ll be heading back soon again to try more of their menu. Satisfied is an understatement.
