explosion pop” (as she once put it) revamps Y2K references – Nelly, Missy, the Chili Peppers – into a zany yet supremely soulful sound that’s entirely her own. Amid a sea of tastefully understated singer-songwriters, Wolf is a freak flag-flying maximalist.
