Magnus Carlsen has been in a form crisis since his 30th birthday in November, both online and over the board, but the world champion seemed back to his best at this week’s $100,000 online Opera Euro Rapid.
That is, until the wheels came off again on Wednesday in one of the most spectacular bouts of poor play of Carlsen’s entire career. Yet again the Norwegian responded with an impressive victory the next day and he now looks set for the weekend final and a possible $30,000 first prize.
