Take the coolest person you know and add a few kids. Fast forward a few years and watch the trappings of their gilded child-free life give way to bath toys, playground tumbles and diapers. Lots of diapers.
Parenting changes us, and Cali Daniels is here for it.
Daniels is a single mother of three who’s found a second burst of viral fame with a parody of Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow.”
The original is a menacing hip-hop hit about expensive shoes and life as an alpha female who’s moved on from exotic dancing. The version by Daniels is more Peppa Pig than Patron. And with more than 10 million views, it’s clear that there’s an audience for it.
This isn’t the first time Daniels has struck internet gold. In 2016 she collected 20 million views with her own version of Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen.”
Daniels is a waitress, and she says that these videos have become a creative outlet for her and a good way to connect with her kids, who help her choose the songs that she parodies. “They enjoy being recognized at school because all of their teachers and friends have seen the videos,” says Daniels.
Daniels hopes her kids find inspiration in these little video shoots. She wants them to know that “if there’s anything they want to do in life, they can they can do it and have fun with it.”
