Looking back at the last few months… we’re just going to come out and say it… we don’t think 2020 has been all that good a year.
In fact, it’s been a bit rubbish really, hasn’t it?
Well if ever you needed proof that there’s still time for things to turn around, get a load of Netflix’s new announcement: we’re just two months away from a new musical
Christmas film starring none other than Dolly Parton.
And with Jenifer Lewis and Christine Baranski completing the cast, what’s not to love? The project was announced a little while ago, but
Netflix revealed on Tuesday that the film will debut on 22 November.
And the latest news was accompanied by this rather stunning poster:Heading home for the holidays with our collective mom @DollyParton! Directed by @msdebbieallen, DOLLY PARTON'S CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE will star Christine Baranski and Jenifer Lewis. Coming to Netflix 22 November pic.twitter.com/JYLVLdmb6d— NetflixFilm (@NetflixFilm) September 29, 2020Just in case all of that wasn’t camp enough, just wait until you hear the plot of the film.
In a nutshell, Christine’s character wants to sell her father’s old land to a shopping mall developer, but gets talked out of it by – you guessed it! – her guardian angel, played by Dolly Parton.
Quite how Christmas plays into the whole thing remains to be seen, but Christine’s got her coat and gloves on in the poster, so we’re guessing there’s a festive twist at some point or another.
Christmas On The Square will also feature a total of 14 (!!!) original songs, performed by the country
music icon.
The film coincides with the debut of Dolly’s first ever Christmas album, the fabulously-titled A Holly Dolly Christmas, which is released on Friday 2 October.MORE NETFLIX: Gillian Anderson's Margaret Thatcher Is Spookily Accurate In New Pics From The Crown Series 4
