Supreme Court rules that Shamima Begum should not be allowed to return to the UK
Shamima Begum, the London schoolgirl who fled to join Isil, has lost her legal bid to return to the UK to appeal against the removal of her British citizenship.
The Supreme Court upheld a challenge against the Court of Appeal after it ruled last year the only way the jihadi bride could have a fair and effective appeal was if she was allowed to return to the UK.
Ms Begum and two of her school friends left their home in Bethnal Green in 2015 to travel to Syria, where they married jihadi fighters and lived under Isil rule.

Donald Trump's new but hostile hometown in Florida - on the ground in Mar-a-Lago
When he was forced out of the White House in January, Donald Trump thought he had left elections behind - for another four years at least.
But one month on, having relocated to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in the wealthy enclave of Palm Beach, Mr Trump faces another vote that could affect his future.
The former president's well-heeled neighbours on the southern Florida barrier island, who are usually known to settle disputes discreetly, are orchestrating a public campaign to bar him from living in his Mar-a-Lago club.
Some of them are now eyeing up a local council election in early March, during which a new mayor and two new council members will be installed who may be more sympathetic to their cause.

In full: Nicola Sturgeon challenged by MSPs over Alex Salmond claims
Nicola Sturgeon insisted she has no regrets about ensuring complaints against her predecessor Alex Salmond were investigated - despite the "difficulties" it has caused.
The First Minister spoke out as the row surrounding her government's bungled handling of sexual harassment allegations against Mr Salmond grew - with her political opponents claiming that the Scottish Parliament itself is being damaged by fallout from the fiasco.
Mr Salmond was awarded more than £500,000 after the Court of Session, Scotland's highest civil court, ruled the way the complaints were handled by the Scottish Government to be "unlawful".
He is due to give evidence to MSPs seeking to discover what went wrong with that process on Friday.
But, ahead of that, his successor, who will herself address the Committee on the Scottish Government Handling of Harassment Complaints next week, was challenged on the issue at First Minister's Questions.

Boris Johnson: Government's exams plan a good 'compromise'
The Government's plan to replace summer exams with teacher assessment is "as good a compromise as we can come to", Boris Johnson has said.
The Prime Minister backed Gavin Williamson following last year's exams row, as he stressed the new plan was "durable", unlike those set out in the past.
On a visit to Accrington Academy in Lancashire on Thursday morning, Mr Johnson said: "In an ideal world we'd be continuing with exams as you normally have them, and the best place for kids is in the classroom and the best way to check on kids' progress is with normal exams.

TikTok pranksters terrify parents with fake nuclear bomb warning
Tracey Stebbing was watching television with her husband and son when a terrifying alert flashed up on screen.
The emergency message - seemingly from the BBC - warned viewers of a potential nuclear strike.
“I thought it was the end of the world,” said the 57-year-old.
Unbeknownst to Tracey, her son, Shaun Perrett, had used his phone to connect to their smart TV and broadcast a fake warning from YouTube onto the screen. He was also secretly filming her reaction.
The video of his mum reacting has since gone viral, receiving 1.4million views and 177.2k likes and has launched a new trend as teenagers unable to attend school, and young people living with their parents again during the pandemic have also given it a go.

Boris Johnson and Sir Keir Starmer clashed over taxes, with the Prime Minister saying it was "preposterous" to speak about tax rises given Labour's manifesto.
The Labour leader said "he should" talk about tax rises, because councils are "being forced" to put council tax up having been "starved" for a decade.
Mr Starmer also demanded self-isolation payments for all and described the Covid Recovery Group's comments about the risk of the pandemic as irresponsible.

Lockdown ending: How the dates for a return to normality have shifted
Boris Johnson outlined his lockdown roadmap on February 22, announcing a four-step plan that could see lockdown entirely lifted on June 21. He described it as a "one-way road to freedom".
But he has now warned there are no guarantees that all Covid-19 restrictions will lift in England on June 21, despite being "optimistic" that it could happen.
The dates for a return to normality have shifted numerous times since the first lockdown in March 2020, as you can see in the video. Will they shift again this time?

Scotland will return to a tiered system from the last week in April, Nicola Sturgeon has said, as she confirmed her 'framework' would be staggered by three weeks - two weeks faster than in England.
The First Minister told MSPs the five-level system should see the entire country enter Level 4 and drop down to Level 3, which would see sectors such as non-essential retail reopen from April 26. The stay at home restriction will be lifted from April 5.
