“It’s very fortunate for Mr Woods to come out of this alive.”
That’s the latest from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy Carlos Gonzalez, one of the first officers to arrive on the scene after golfer Tiger Woods wrecked his SUV outside of Los Angeles.
He said the golfer was wearing his seatbelt, which might have saved his life, and appeared “calm and lucid.”

No 'evidence of impairment' in Tiger Woods crash, police say
Tiger Woods is “fortunate to be alive” following a serious car crash in California, police said on Tuesday.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva told a press conference that deputies had found “no evidence of impairment” from drugs or alcohol at the crash site.
“No impairment was found at this time but it will be the subject of the investigation,” he said.

Tiger Woods’ wrecked SUV towed after car crash
Golf star Tiger Woods suffered leg injuries on Tuesday 23 February, in a vehicle rollover in suburban Los Angeles and was undergoing surgery, authorities and his manager said.
The wrecked SUV was towed on Tuesday afternoon as media gathered at the crash site.
Woods was alone in the vehicle and had to be extricated from it, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement. No other cars were involved in the wreck that injured the golfer.

Tiger Woods has been hospitalised with “multiple leg injuries” after being involved in a serious car crash in California.
Fire fighters had to free the golf superstar from his vehicle using a “jaws of life” tool in Rancho Palos Verdes, near Los Angeles.
Authorities say that his car, which was the only vehicle involved in the crash, rolled over and sustained “major damage” in the incident near Rolling Hills Estates at 7.12AM.

Prince Philip to remain in hospital while receiving treatment for an infection
Prince Philip is expected to remain in hospital for “several days” as he continues to receive treatment for an infection, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
In a short statement, the Palace said the Duke of Edinburgh was “comfortable and responding to treatment” but “is not expected to leave hospital for several days”.
“The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII’s Hospital where he is receiving medical attention for an infection,” it added.

UK unemployment rate jumps to 5.1%
The unemployment rate rose to 5.1 per cent last month – a five-year high – as Covid continued to inflict damage on the UK economy.
The Office for National Statistics said the jobless rate was up 0.4 percentage points on the previous quarter and up 1.3 percentage points on a year earlier.
