A 20-year-old tusker, which got stuck in a fishing net in Nugu backwaters of Sargur taluk was on Tuesday rescued after an eight-hour operation by forest and fire service staff. Bandipur Tiger Reserve foresters said an elephant herd had entered the backwaters on Monday night to cross to the other side for food. While swimming, one of them got entangled in a net laid by fishermen. The tusker struggled to free himself and could not swim to safety, while other elephants crossed the river and went back to the forest.

Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa laid the foundation stone for a fisheries harbour at Hejamadi in Udupi's Kaup taluk on January 19. Covid-19: Delhi Schools reopen for students of class 10 and 12
With boards of welcome back to school, some gates decorated with marigold flowers, signages marking social distancing, sanitiser machines and thermal scanning the children of classes X and XII returned to school after 10 months. In most government schools to the attendance was less ranging between 20-30%. Most said since it was the first day it could have been less. 10-15 students were seated in one classroom each of them with mask and sanitisers. Some schools even conducted psychological counselling. As students came back to a new form of schools most expressed excitement and many sharing the new skills learnt during the lockdown. Most boys in a government school said they had learnt how to do household work, cook. Some had learnt TV repairing and many shared how this period taught them the importance of family and school.
