Trump administration issues final wage rules for H-1B and green card holders
The outgoing Trump administration is leaving no stones unturned to fulfil its ‘protectionist’ agenda. Late on Tuesday night – India time, the US department of labour announced the introduction of final wages rules, which hiked the prevailing wages for those working in the US on H 1 B visas or holding employment-based green cards. The new rule, which will be published in the federal register on January 14, is the second attempt by the Trump administration to hike the wages for foreign workers – such as those under the H 1 B or PERM labour certification program. The first attempt to do so via a hastily introduced interim final rule, which came into effect on October 8, last year, was scuttled by three district courts in lawsuits filed by plaintiffs from the technology sector, education sector and non-profits.

Dense fog engulfs Delhi-NCR, visibility drops

Bird flu: Chicken, eggs off Delhi menu as corporations expand sales ban
In the wake of the bird flu scare in the city, the three municipal corporations announced on Wednesday a ban on selling of eggs besides live or raw chicken meat and processed or packed poultry products. The ban will remain in force till further orders. This will deal a heavy blow not only to the poultry industry but also to restaurants, small eateries, including dhabas, and roadside shops where eggs are almost a staple. Bakeries too may have to restrict their operations. The civic agencies have warned that strict action, including cancellation of licence, will be taken against those who violate the order. The Delhi government had earlier banned import of live chicken into Delhi and also shut down the Ghazipur poultry market. Later, it had also banned packaged or processed chicken from outside the city. Civic officials will randomly visit shops dealing in poultry to ensure there is no violation. "Even online selling of chicken and related items won't be allowed," said a North Delhi Municipal Corporation official. Owners of restaurants and small eateries have been warned against serving food containing poultry meat and eggs.
