Daler Mehndi says he made Tunak Tunak Tun video after his ego took a hit
Singer Daler Mehndi, who is out with his song Ishq Nachave, revealed that the music video of Tunak Tunak Tun was the result of a blow to his ego. After a fallout with the media and comment that his music videos were successful only because of their ‘glamour’ and beautiful women, he was hurt and decided that his next video would feature only him. This led to the release of Tunak Tunak Tun in 1998, which featured five Daler Mehndis! The song and the video became a huge hit not only in India but around the world, cementing his status as one of the biggest pop stars at the time.

R-day: Protesting farmers' dress rehearsal for parallel parade in Delhi | Watch
Protesting farmers conducted a full dress rehearsal for a parallel parade on Republic Day. Thousands of farmers will take out the Kisan tractor parade in Delhi on January 26. Farm unions said the tractor parade will be conducted in a 'disciplined, peaceful' manner. Samyukt Kisan Morcha, umbrella body of 40 unions, said the parade would cover a 60-km stretch. Farm unions added that a tractor parade would pass through New Delhi's Outer Ring Road. Tractors during the parade would display the national flag along with flags of farm unions. Farmers also said their march would commence only after the military parade on Rajpath ends. The 11th round of discussions between government and farmers failed to make any progress on Friday. The talks hit a roadblock as farmer leaders stand firm with their demands.

Singhu: Masked man reveals alleged plot to shoot protesting farmers, arrested
Protesting farmer leaders have alleged that a conspiracy has been hatched to kill four of them and create disruption to their proposed tractor rally on January 26. Farm leaders presented an accused at a press conference at Singhu border on Friday night. The man claimed that his accomplices were allegedly asked to pose as cops on Republic Day. They were also allegedly asked to baton-charge the crowd during the proposed tractor rally. Farm leaders claimed that they caught the man from the protest site at Singhu border. The miscreant was later handed over to the Haryana police for further investigation. Thousands of farmers have been camping at Delhi borders since November 28 last year. Farmers demand repeal of the three farm laws and a legal guarantee on MSP for their crops.

'New UK variant of coronavirus may be more deadly': Boris Johnson
UK PM Boris Johnson said that the new virus variant may have higher mortality. "The variant that was first identified in London and the South East may be associated with a higher degree of mortality," Johnson said. He added that all current evidence showed that the two vaccines currently used in the UK, the Pfizer/BioNTech and the Oxford/AstroZeneca, remained effective against both the original form of coronavirus and the new UK variant. According to the government's chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, the vaccines, however, may be less effective against other variants that have emerged in South Africa and Brazil. Boris further informed that 5.4 million people across the UK have been given the first dose.

‘No request received from Pakistan for Indian-made coronavirus vaccines’: MEA
India is supplying COVID-19 vaccines being manufactured in the country to neighbouring countries including Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh but has not received any request from Pakistan. Addressing the weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said there is an interest in accessing vaccines from India, which is the global hub of vaccine production. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stated that India's vaccine production and delivery capacity will be used for the benefit of all humanity to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. "I am not aware of any request for the supply of Indian-made vaccines to Pakistan on a G2G basis or commercial basis," Srivastava said answering a query. Watch the full video for more details.

100-year-old recalls fighting alongside Subhas Chandra Bose
On the 125th anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary, we speak to freedom fighter Parmanand, who is among the last surviving members of the Azad Hind Fauj or the Indian National Army. The centenarian was a part of the British army regiment that had reached Singapore to fight against Japan in 1942. He was taken into captivity by Japan as a Prisoner of War and later joined the INA formed by Subhash Chandra Bose in 1943. With the INA, he travelled to various places from Myanmar (then Burma) to Assam to fight against the British army. He was caught spying on a British base and sent to a Multan jail. He was later court martialled for deceiving the British government. Currently, Parmanand lives in Fazilpur Badli village in Farrukhnagar with his family and was among the four INA veterans who took part in the Republic Day parade in 2019

Farm laws: 11th round of talks fail; farmers to go ahead with rally on R-Day
The government's negotiations with protesting farm unions hit a roadblock on Friday as the farmer leaders stuck to their demands for a complete repeal of three farm laws they find pro-corporate and a legal guarantee for MSP, even as the Centre asked them to reconsider its proposal for putting the Acts on hold for 12-18 months. Unlike the last 10 rounds of talks, the 11th round could not even reach a decision on the next date for the meeting as the government also hardened its position saying it is ready to meet again once the unions agree to discuss the suspension proposal. This followed a big climbdown made by the Centre during the last round when they offered to suspend the laws and form a joint committee to find solutions. Farmer leaders said they will intensify their agitation now and alleged that the government's approach was not right during the meeting. They also said their tractor rally will go ahead as per the plans on January 26 and unions have told the police that it is the government's responsibility to maintain peace. Google threatens to withdraw search engine in Australia; government hits back
Google and the government in Australia are locked in a war of words over a proposed legislation that will make tech giants pay for news content. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison lashed out at a Google official who said the tech giant would be forced to withdraw its search engine from Australia if the proposed code were to become law. ‘The principle of unrestricted linking between websites is fundamental to search and coupled with the unmanageable financial and operational risk, if this version of the code were to become law, it would give us no real choice but to stop making Google search available in Australia,’ Mel Silva, Managing Director for Google Australia and New Zealand said. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison quickly hit back, saying ‘we don't respond to threats’. Watch the full video for all the details.
