Brushstrokes appear several feet wide, as more than 200 works, such as Starry Night and The Yellow House, are made larger and split into panels, giving visitors a 360-degree view of the paintings projected onto the walls and floor.
•
Annabelle Mauger, one of the artistic directors behind the exhibit, says she tests this type of exhibition by seeing how her young children react to it.
•
"When I saw them just running [at] the image, running into the paintings, I think, this is the most fantastic thing I can do," she told CBC News.
•
Unlike in traditional museums, visitors to this converted warehouse can run, sit on the floor and reach out and touch the projection screens simulating a massive canvas.
•
Imagine Van Gogh continues at the Arsenal Contemporary Art centre in Montreal until Feb. 2, 2020.

Fourteen beams of light illuminated Montreal’s skyline tonight, one for every victim who died 30 years ago at École Polytechnique.
•
Each year, mourners mark the Dec. 6, 1989 attack on female engineering students.
•
"Thirty years ago these women's respective lives and destinies were shattered, which has left us with the obligation to reflect on this loss,” said Catherine Bergeron, whose sister, Geneviève Bergeron, was among those killed.
•
Gov. Gen. Julie Payette acknowledged in her address that she herself was studying engineering "like my sisters who died in Polytechnique."
•
She says anti-women rhetoric remains commonplace in society, but it has to change.
•
"To the belittling, the dehumanizing, the name-calling that we observe so often, especially to any women who raise their heads above the crowd, we have to say, 'no.'"
•
This year, 14 schools across the country — from St. John's to Vancouver — also paid tribute to those who were killed.
•
Two current students at École Polytechnique read each of the women's names aloud. They are:

A Newfoundland couple has renewed hopes of bringing their lost dog home, after she was spotted on a security camera eight months after she went missing.
•
Zoe, a yellow Labrador mix, went missing in April after she escaped from a backyard near Brigus Junction.
•
Her owners, Peter Vaters and Rebecca Curlew, searched for Zoe every day for six weeks, until they got a call saying a dog like Zoe had been found dead along the side of the highway.
•
Late last month, a Brigus Junction man set up a camera in the woods near his property after his moose pelts were dragged away and eaten.
•
He thought he'd see a coyote on the camera.
•
He was surprised to instead find a hungry dog wearing a bandana.
•
When the man shared the photo on social media, that bandana stood out for Zoe’s owners.
•
They’ve received an outpouring of support online, but they’re urging people not to put out food for Zoe. They’re hoping to lure her into baited traps they’ve set up in the area.

Alanis Morissette and her milestone album Jagged Little Pill are back in the spotlight.
•
A new musical inspired by the award-winning 1995 alt-rock record is sparking a wave of nostalgia and appreciation.
•
The Ottawa-born singer-songwriter was in New York City to celebrate the musical’s opening night on Broadway.
•
It's been more than eight years since Morissette was first approached about turning her music into a stage musical.
•
"I thought, 'I'd be into that — maybe,'" the Grammy and Juno winner recalled from the red carpet.
•
Morissette says she was patient in her search to find the right people to bring the show to life.
•
“I took my time, I met some really incredible writers along the way and until it was a big, giant yes, we just kept going,” Morissette says.
•
The musical follows a modern-day family struggling with issues of opioid addiction, sexual and racial identity, rape and youth activism, all woven together by songs from Morissette's album.
•
Vivek Tiwary, the theatre producer who convinced Morissette that Jagged Little Pill could become a musical, wanted the show to explore the themes and sentiments of her music.
•
“When people talk about what that album meant to them, they don’t just say, ‘Oh it’s a great record, my favourite album of all time,’ they say, ‘That record saved my life, that record pulled me through a traumatic period’...and I wanted to honour that,” says Tiwary.
•
"That's what I told Alanis. I wanted to create a piece where people would walk out and want to change the world."

A Montreal borough is hoping it can preserve some of its iconic business signs.
•
Plateau–Mont-Royal's borough council voted Monday to protect 70 different signs within its district.
•
That's a relief for Matt Soar, who has been trying to collect and protect signs for the past eight years.
•
"For a lot of us who are interested in heritage signs, it might be 10 or 20 years too late because we've already lost an awful lot," Soar said.
•
The Montreal Signs Project has set up a permanent exhibition of commercial and civic signs at Concordia University's Loyola campus.

These students are singing O Canada in Ojibway.
•
Their teacher Beth Gellner wanted to incorporate daily Indigenous education in the Grade 2 classroom.
•
Learning the new versions resonated with the children at McNaughton Avenue Public School in Chatham, Ont.
•
"I like it a lot because it's a new language for me," said student Abbey Killingsworth.
•
Gellner partnered with Gretchen Sands-Gamblem, an elementary Indigenous education special projects teacher who is from Walpole Island First Nation.
•
Sands-Gamblem had a version of the anthem tape-recorded from a relative.
•
She says there’s a big difference between the English and Ojibway versions.
•
“You will notice that there is a lot of focus on loving the land and loving creation and honouring all of creation," she said.
•
A recording of the Ojibway version has been shared with other schools and some have begun playing it during the morning announcements.
•
Indigenous students at Wallaceburg Secondary say it means a lot to them to hear that version of the anthem.
•
"It makes me feel like they're not forgetting about our culture and who we are as people," said Grade 11 student Tymmiecka Johnson-Greenbird.

If you’ve been on social media in the past couple of weeks, you’re probably familiar with Baby Yoda, the adorable character from Disney’s show The Mandalorian.
•
What you might not know is all the ways Indigenous artists and memers have found to embrace the cuddly green alien.
•
Twyla Barker, president of Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College in Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in central North Dakota, says there's a connection between the Force and Indigenous belief systems.
•
"It's almost relatable. We kind of have this affinity for the Force, because there's a lot of relationships or ties between Indigenous mindsets and that whole storytelling arc," she said.
•
"And of course we're going to welcome something that's so darn cute."
•
Artists have drawn Baby Yoda in a cradleboard, wearing a ribbon skirt. He's even become a pair of beaded earrings.
•
Baby Yoda isn't just showing up in works of art, Indigenous memers have also been playing with his image to get a laugh and share their perspective online.
•
Dani Lanouette, who runs the Instagram account TheBandOffice, says when she first noticed the Baby Yoda images floating around, she immediately thought he looked like a little kid from the reserve.
•
“The Native community has definitely adopted Baby Yoda as a rez baby, and we love it,” Lanouette said.

A Santa Claus doll with blood running down his beard, dark circles around his eyes, standing in a yard littered with severed limbs is not something you expect to see on your street during the holiday season.
•
Nikolina Nikolova first picked up the full-sized Santa mannequin a couple of years ago and thought it would make a great Halloween decoration once it was drenched in fake blood.
•
There was just one problem — storing old Saint Nick was a real pain. So sheleft it out after Halloween and let its ghoulish reign roll right into the Christmas season.
•
Then the neighbours intervened.
•
First, they ripped zombie Santa down from his perch and threw him onto the front yard to send a message.
•
Undeterred, Nikolova put him back up and tied him to a tree.
•
The next day, her Santa was found on the lawn again, this time with a note attached to her door.
•
“Your neighbours on the street would like you to remove the Halloween Santa," it read. "It's scaring the little children. Much appreciated."
•
She didn’t like that whoever left the note didn’t sign it and didn’t talk to her face to face.
•
So she left a note of her own: "Nobody puts zombie Santa in a closet," and reattached it to the perch.
•
As you might imagine, the neighbours retaliated. This time by stealing Zombie Santa right off of her yard.
•
But instead of being upset, Nikolova says she found the whole thing rather funny.
•
"I laughed for about 10 minutes and put the limbs into the boots … the last remains of Zombie Santa," she said.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with Prince Charles at Clarence House in London ahead of the NATO summit with other world leaders.
•
The official residence of Charles and his wife Camilla was previously home to the Queen Mother.
•
There have been reports in the U.K. that the prince will be stepping up more often to assume public duties normally carried out by Queen Elizabeth, who turns 94 in the spring.

Some black women like Imani Dean say they often feel uncomfortable going to hockey games because they've been made to feel they aren't part of the club. Until now.
•
The Black Girl Hockey Club was founded last year by 39-year-old Renee Hess, of Riverside, Calif.
•
What started as an online chat group evolved into a group that actually goes to NHL and NWHL games together.

George Adams wanted to keep busy in retirement, so he started building birdhouses.
•
Now 91, he has built hundreds, and maintains more than 900 of them mounted to hydro poles around southwestern Ontario.
•
“It’s something to do. I don’t like sitting around doing nothing,” he said.
•
Adams retired from his beef farm 20 years ago.
•
“I have friends that moved into town and they really didn't do very much. If you quit working, they'll put you in the box,” he said.
•
Adams marks each birdhouse with a check in a notepad. He doesn't record exact locations, just street names.
•
This fall, Adams visited every single birdhouse, getting them cleared out and ready for the spring.
•
It took him about three weeks. Some days he would bring friends and family; other days, he did it alone.
•
"I carry half a dozen in the car with me all the time," he said. "Somebody needs a birdhouse, I've got one."
