Netflix has announced that the animated sitcom Tuca And Bertie will not be coming back for a second series – and fans are not happy at all.
The streaming service unveiled Tuca And Berie in May, with
Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong voicing the eponymous bird heroines.
Upon its release, the show was met with widespread critical acclaim, with many fans praising the way it dealt with serious issues like sexism and mental health.
However, despite winning over critics and viewers,
Netflix has decided not to take the show any further, cancelling it after just one series.The show’s creator Lisa Hanawalt – who previously worked on Netflix’s hit animated series Bojack Horseman – tweeted on Wednesday night: “Netflix is not ordering a second season of Tuca & Bertie.
“Tuca & Bertie is everything I wanted it to be: beautiful, funny, fresh, loving, horny, weird, experimental, comforting, and deep. The whole team put our hearts and asses into this show, and I’m so proud of it.
“Everyone is still glowing over the reviews and articles and feedback. T&B is critically acclaimed and has repeatedly been called one of the best new shows of the year.”
She added: “None of this makes a difference to an algorithm, but it’s important to me and the way I want to continue making art in this world.”Tuca & Bertie is everything I wanted it to be: beautiful, funny, fresh, loving, horny, weird, experimental, comforting, and deep. In what could come as a glimmer of hope to Tuca And Bertie fans, One Day At A Time was eventually picked up by another US network, with a fourth series set to air on CBS’ Pop channel next year.MORE NETFLIX...
