"Nobody could have expected it, and it’s just wrong," Carey told Piers Morgan during an appearance on 'Good Morning Britain.'
During a live interview on Good Morning Britain on Monday, Mariah Carey was asked about the Las Vegas mass shooting that left 58 people dead and more than 500 injured.
“What’s your reaction, just on a human level, to concertgoers, people who love performers like yourself, being targeted in this way?” host Piers Morgan asked the singer, who has a residency at Caesars Palace.
“It’s terrible. People are just going out to listen to music because that’s what they want to do,” Carey said. Further adding, “They’re out for the night, and something shocking happens. Nobody could have expected it, and it’s just wrong. I really don’t know what to say.”
Following the interview, Carey expressed her condolences on Twitter.
Morgan received backlash over questioning Carey on the shooting, when she appeared to be unaware of the tragic events that had taken place.
But the host defended his line of inquiries, tweeting that the singer and her team was informed of the events before the interview.
A gunman opened fire on Sunday night, during the Route 91 Harvest Festival, an outdoor country music event. The death toll from the Vegas shooting makes it the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
