Kate Garraway has announced she's recently been filming a new TV project after sharing her money concerns. The Good Morning
Britain anchor recently revealed she'd been left in debt of around £800,000 after caring for her late husband Derek Draper . The former political lobbyist contracted
Coronavirus in March 2020 and was admitted to intensive care. During his treatment, he was placed in an induced coma for two months. After contracting the virus, Derek's condition rapidly deteriorated with several of his vital organs being affected. He was left needing round-the-clock care due to his condition. But in December 2023, he suffered a cardiac arrest and was said to be in a "very serious condition". Sadly, in January this year, Derek died at a north
London hospital. Kate later revealed that the cost of his care was a lot more than her salary from ITV and she had been crippled by the debt. Now, the 56-year-old has announced she recently returned from filming abroad which she described as an "amazing week". Taking to
Instagram in view of her 1.2 million followers, the broadcaster said: "Just landed back home after an amazing week filming - meeting some truly inspirational people (can reveal all in September). Every flight that lands safely is a good flight by me! But this was exceptional." UK over the weekend. She added: "Despite storms internationally & delays the staff were calm & kind & managed to look as fresh as these flowers - even on landing. I am more resembling pot pouri but feel great!!! Thanks @emirates." In a heartbreaking admission, Kate recently said she felt ashamed for being "completely broke". She was forced to pay £16,000 per month for Derek's care but her "well paid"
Job didn't cover the costs. Speaking on The One Show, Kate was keen to stress that she didn't want people to assume she was paid badly. She told host Alex Jones: "It shouldn't be, because the skill of a carer, the skill of that type of care, it's just as lifesaving and as brilliant as the work of a surgeon. But we don't respect it, and look, I know I have an incredible job and I'm very well paid, and that's why I felt that I had to be that honest. "Because if I can't afford it, and people can't cope 24 hours a day on their own, you can’t look after someone 24 hours a day. Derek had huge medical needs but even he wasn’t considered medically serious enough to get that support, so what on earth is it like for someone who’s one down for that? I just fear for us all really." She later added: "Derek's care costs more than my salary from ITV and that is before you pay for a mortgage, before you pay any household bills, before you pay for anything for the kids, so we are at a crunch point. I am in debt. I can't earn enough money to cover my debt because I am managing Derek's care and I can’t even use the money I do have to support Derek's recovery because it's going on the basics all the time. I'm not going to pretend that I am poorly paid, I have an incredible job that I love, which is well-paid, but it's not enough." Follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram ,
