Britain took a rather awkward turn on Monday, as Kate Garraway returned to front the breakfast programme alongside co-host Ed Balls. They had been discussing the latest headlines on the ITV show, when topic turned to Russ Cook, otherwise dubbed the "Hardest Geezer". He had been battling the sweltering heat racing the entire length of Africa for charity on a gruelling mission. On the last leg of his journey, of which he was at times held to gunpoint, he was joined by fellow marathon enthusiasts to race to the finish line which was 42 kilometres away. Several journalists including GMB reporter Jonathan Swain also ran alongside. He also stayed close to the hotel to have an exclusive interview with the runner reports the Daily Star , after he already raised £700k in funds. Reporting live from Tunisia's beach front on GMB, Jonathan explained his experience in taking part on the huge achievment. However when a clip of the reporter running alongside Russ was shown Kate poked fun at the reporter. Jonathan Swain appeared unimpressed by the cheeky digs on the live link (Image: ITV) As she joked alongside co-host Ed Balls, the 56-year-old admitted they had been hoping Russ could be up in time for the interview as he said he wanted to enjoy a well-deserved lie-in. She added: "Let's hope he's not too hungover when we chat to him, because he might be a little bit hard - a bit cross about it." Join the Daily Record's

"There's Jonathan there, looking very relaxed as he ran all of what - 2.5 feet, was it?" Kate said, before erupting into a fit of cheeky laughter. Jonathan appeared unimpressed at the dig who stayed silent for a few seconds before hitting back at the presenting duo. "Uh, actually 5k! 5k I did yesterday, thank you very much!" he fumed. "In this heat as well, even Russ was quite impressed with it." Kate appeared to realise her comment was unwelcome as she became slightly embarassed and raised her hand to her head. She quipped: "I'll salute you, I'll salute you and then I will pipe down."
