Dad-of-three, Sawomir Adamczyk, is demanding a refund for his flights and hotel totalling £2,300 after the mix-up. The 42-year-old arrived at Birmingham Airport with his family at 3.50am on Easter Sunday - a whole two hours and 55 minutes before the flight's scheduled departure. Their luggage was checked in at 4.11am, but the hold up began when Sawomir, his wife and three children - aged two, seven, and 15 -tried to go through to security. The dad said the only way for passengers to get to the security control area was by using just one lift - something he believes was down to ongoing construction work at the airport, reports the Mirror. Staff called passengers for certain flights in order of departure because of the hold up. He said: "To get through security checks, we were only allowed to use one lift. We waited for the lift, then we stood in the queue. There were 12 or 15 flights which all started to overlap each other. They started calling people from different flights to go through to security. My children were all in tears when this happened. A lot of people were shouting and kids were crying. It was absolutely crazy. When I looked behind, the whole area was filled up with people, everywhere was absolutely blocked." Sawomir alleges other passengers were denied boarding due to the delays. (Image: Supplied) Sawomir says he and his family were one of many who arrived at the gate too late for their flight. He claims an airport official told him there were 51 passengers missing from the flight in total. Sawomir said: "They told us 'Sorry guys, but they shut the door'. The people at Ryanair said nothing to us." The family and fellow passengers were ordered to collect their luggage from the carousel and head to the customer service desk. Sawomir said: "They had enough time to take our luggage out and put it on the carousels but not enough time to let us on board. We could have easily got on that plane." After the family waited an hour and a half at the passenger information desk, the dad received a further email from Ryanair saying that the plane had not yet departed and was delayed until 7.40am. However at the desk, his family were only offered the next available flight - which was three days later with an additional fee of £100 each. Sawomir said: "They told us the earliest they could do is Wednesday and it was £100 each. I thought it was ridiculous, it is not even our fault and they're trying to charge us again." Sawomir added: "I know it happened to other passengers on the flight. There were people shouting and arguing on another flight to
Dublin." They're doing it and they get away with it. Once they've get your money, they've got no respect for anybody." A spokesperson for Birmingham Airport said: "We are very sorry to hear about Slawomir and his family's experience at Birmingham Airport. We can confirm that his complaint is now with our Complaints Resolution Team, who are investigating further to identify the failing on the day. We have also reached out to Slawomir for further details." A spokesperson for Ryanair said: "Due to airport security delays at Birmingham airport, Ryanair passengers were advised via their email to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure time. We regret that these airport security delays at Birmingham Airport, which are entirely out of our control, caused passengers to miss their flight." Join the Daily Record
