A mum behaved in a 'disgraceful fashion' after necking 'four wines' on a Jet2 flight from Turkey. Lauren Beaumont-Capps launched a drunken tirade on board the flight from Antalya to Manchester after learning her flight was delayed, a court heard. A judge at Manchester Crown Court warned Beaumont-Capps, from Swinton, Salford, that she would have sent her to jail if the flight had been in the air at the time of the abuse. Recorder Anna Vigars KC told her: "Quite why it was then that you chose to become abusive at that stage, rather than simply wait with other passengers to get off, I don't know. "I don't expect you know either. It seems to me that alcohol played a very large part in this." Prosecuting, Keira Shaw told how the flight on Saturday, January 13 was running about half an hour late, and arrived in Manchester at 8.10pm. Cabin crew became aware of a 'commotion' on row 32 of the plane, where Beaumont-Capps had been sitting with another woman. Ms Shaw said the pair had been served six alcoholic drinks during the flight. Beaumont-Capps approached one of the cabin crew as they began to disarm the doors and asked if she could leave through the rear doors. But she was told that she'd have to disembark at the front. Beaumont-Capps then said: "Get me off this f****** plane. Why have I got to stay on this f****** plane?" Ms Shaw said: "The defendant continued to behave in an aggressive manner, demanding to be let off the plane before any other passengers." The two members of cabin crew, Olivia Cammell and Terri Grumbridge, approached Beaumont-Capps and asked her to stop swearing. But she continued her abuse and called the pair 'stupid c****'. She continued to be 'irate' and they decided to 'stop engaging' with her. In an 'aggressive manner', she told Ms Grumbridge 'why don't you f****** f*** off Terri'. After she told her she didn't appreciate being spoken to in that way, Beaumont-Capps replied: "So f****** what. What evidence have you got?" They alerted the cabin crew manager and decided to call in the police. Ms Shaw said as Beaumont-Capps moved closer towards her Ms Grumbridge began to 'fear for her safety' and was worried she may be attacked. She said the plane was by now 'fairly empty'. "F****** good luck to you," Beaumont-Capps said. "I don't know what you are going to do because my Dad is a DCI." The court heard that her father is not a
police officer. Ms Cammell had begun "shaking and started to cry" as a result of the situation. The police arrived and arrested Beaumont-Capps on suspicion of being drunk on an aircraft, and a public order offence. In a statement read on her behalf, Ms Cammell said she had been flying for eight years and said it was the first time she'd been 'verbally abused in such a way'. The incident has made her 'apprehensive about flying again' and left her 'worried something like this might happen again'. Beaumont-Capps, who has no previous convictions, faced a maximum sentence of up to two years in
prison after admitting being drunk on an aircraft. Her barrister Oliver Jarvis described the incident as being "completely out of character". He said that Beaumont-Capps had been travelling to and from
Turkey for a number of months due to 'dental affiliate' work she was involved in. Mr Jarvis said she was on medication at the time, and that she has been 'struggling' with mental health issues. Beaumont-Capps is 'embarrassed' by her behaviour and felt 'humiliated' after reading the impact of her actions on the cabin crew, he said. Mr Jarvis said: "This is something completely foreign to the defendant, who has led a law abiding life. He added that the mum had been "completely drunk" at the time. He said she is the primary carer for her 13-year-old son, and said a jail sentence would have a "significant impact" on him. Mr Jarvis urged the judge to "draw back" from handing her a custodial sentence. Recorder Anna Vigars KC said: "Had this behaviour happened while the flight was in the air, or even taxing towards the stand, I would have without hesitation imposed an immediate custodial sentence, because of the danger you would have caused to others." The judge described her actions as "disgraceful", but said there had been "no danger to the flight". She said "Beaumont-Capps' 'genuine remorse, her caring responsibilities and other mitigating circumstances' meant she did not have to impose a prison sentence. She was instead handed a 12 month community order, and ordered to undertake ten rehabilitation activity requirement days with the probation service. She was also told to adhere to an alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement, and pay £425 in costs. Beaumont-Capps pleaded guilty to being drunk on an aircraft and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.
