Italy but born American, and this wasn't his first time on the show. After the first commercial break, host Ken Jennings spoke to each of the contestants like he always does. After speaking to Monica, he moved on to Chuck and shared the news that Chuck had been on the show before. "Chuck hasn't been here in so long," Ken said, "You were the champion of the 1986 [Tournament of Champions]." He added: "Belated congratulations, but we haven’t seen you in a few years, Chuck, what have you been up to?" Chuck shared that he moved to Italy 19 years ago with his wife Francesca and his son, Matthew. "We live together in a little town outside of Rome," he added. Besides gracing the stage 38 years ago, it turned out that Chuck had a specific Jeopardy strategy that other competitors have adopted. It's called "the Forrest Bounce," meaning they bounce around the board instead of going in order. "Everyone does your namesake 'Forrest Bounce.' It caught on, do you think you were owed royalties or anything?" Ken asked. Chuck responded: "I wish, but being invited back I think is an honor enough and it's a real privilege to be here again.” At the first break, Monica led the score with 3,800. Chuck had an even 1,000 and Sam had 200. Sam found the first Daily Double and got it incorrect, losing 1,000 points. Then entering Double Jeopardy, Sam's score stayed the same, Monica stayed in the lead with 8,200, and Chuck had 2,600. Sam was able to find both Daily Doubles and got them both correct. In the first one of the round, he added 2,000 and in the second he doubled his score to 4,400. Going into Final Jeopardy, Monica had 15,800, Chuck had 11,000 and Sam had 12,000. Everyone got it wrong with the correct answer being the book One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. But Sam bet the least and he ended up winning and advancing by $1.
