SNOW sports centre near Edinburgh. The new coaster is being constructed at the Midlothian Snowsports Centre, approximately a 30 minutes drive from the centre of Edinburgh . The 600-metre ride, which will carry individuals down a steep slope and in a huge loop, is being built as part of a multi-million pound re-development of the attraction. As reported by Edinburgh Live , Midlothian Council has warned people not to fly drones near the site after some tried to film the construction, which could be dangerous for visitors and workers. Earlier this week, it was reported that a local YouTuber filmed footage of the coaster's development as it approaches completion. Once the ride is open, visitors will sit in a cart that looks like a toboggan and go down a track, giving them a fast ride and views of the surrounding area. Alpine coasters are like rollercoasters, and are popular in mountainous areas in Europe . They are usually put in ski resorts to provide a fun activity that can be accessed all year round. The new ride will send visitors on a thrilling 600-metre journey downhill (Image: Midlothian Council) As well as the alpine coaster, the Midlothian Snowsports Centre is receiving other upgrades as part of the redevelopment plans. The project is called 'Destination Hillend', and will reportedly cost around £30 million. The attraction is also set to get an indoor climbing centre, a soft play area for kids, and a new reception area with a dedicated retail space. Improvements will also be made to provide easier road access to the site. The Midlothian Snowsports Centre's alpine coaster is expected to open to the public this summer, although an exact date is yet to be confirmed.
