With the latest season of underway, fans are excited to see if their favorite will make it to the finale and be crowned the winner. The last day of auditions is this Sunday and then the show goes into its famous week. After
Hollywood week, there will be a round that's filmed at Disney's Aulani Resort and Spa. The
HAWAII round will include two superstar
music mentors - Tori Kelly and Jelly Roll. Then the live shows start where America will vote every week for their favorites until the finale. There isn't an official air date yet for the season 22 finale. But based on last season's finale, which aired on May 21, 2023, we can assume that the finale could air this year on May 26 or June 2.
American Idol season 22 premiered on February 18 with Ryan Seacrest as host. The beloved TV personality has hosted the show since its first season. Judges Lionel Richie,
Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan took the auditions this year to their hometowns - Tuskeegee, Alabama; Santa Barbara, California; and Leesburg, Georgia. Other audition towns included
Los Angeles and Nashville, Tennesee. This is Katy's last season as a judge, which she announced earlier this year on
Jimmy Kimmel Live. The late-night host asked the Firework
Singer how long she plans on being a judge on American Idol. The star said: "I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol. I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat." Katy has been a judge on the beloved singing competition for seven seasons, first making an appearance in 2017. There's no word on who her replacement will be. Last year, the winner was Iam Tongi with the runner-ups being Megan Danielle and Colin Stough. Iam was the first person from Hawaii to win the competition, and the first non-Country singer in three years. He was also the first person to win the show who was born after American Idol premiered on June 11, 2002.
