It was said at the time that his potential involvement was "shrouded in secrecy". Last year, Cillian teased that he was "open to the idea" of appearing in the film but shared that he liked the "ambiguity" of the show's ending, which is understood to have shown his character Tommy riding off on a horse. He told
Margot Robbie in a conversation for Variety : "I'm totally open to the idea but y'know I also do think it was a kind of perfect six seasons. It's sometimes hard to move into the film format and I kinda do like the ambiguity of the ending. But I'm always open to like a great script." The news comes following Cillian having won an Oscar earlier this month for his role in the film Oppenheimer (2023). He had been up against
Bradley Cooper , Colman Domingo , Paul Giamatti and Jeffrey Wright in the Best
Actor category. BirminghamWorld reports that Peaky Blinders writer Steven praised Cillian over the accolade. He's said to have shared that the actor "deserved" to win, adding that he is "brilliant" and "such a great" person. He added: "He deserves everything he gets."
