Mary Trump 'energized' as uncle 'Donald's campaign spirals into chaos'
Mar 29, 2024
Donald Trump's campaign is in chaos, and his niece says she's energized.Mary Trump, the niece of the former president and a psychologist by trade, has previously been critical of her uncle. On Thursday, she said her uncle's failures are adding up.ALSO READ: A neuroscientist reveals how Trump and Biden's cognitive impairments are different"As the RNC’s fundraising falters and Donald’s campaign spirals into chaos, I am energized!" she said in a Substack post. She then continued:"When Donald dominates the news cycle, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed. Every bad headline has a negative impact. But then I remember something crucial: There’s usually more to the story than meets the eye. I’m determined to cut through the media noise and share with you all the good that happened this week. These are the headlines we need to remain energized and hopeful that the media largely ignored."Mary Trump goes on to highlight President Joe Biden's recent fundraising hauls."President Biden’s $155 million+ war chest has just received another turbo boost, bringing the total of cash on hand to at least $180 million. (By comparison, between his campaign and the RNC, Donald barely has over $50 million — and continues to drain the accounts to cover his absolutely staggering legal expenses)," she wrote. "This is a development that could significantly increase Biden’s ability to influence the narrative in crucial swing states."This, she says, also tells us a lot about voter excitement for Biden."While critics have expressed doubts about the degree to which the Democratic base is fired up as compared to 2020, today’s $25 million fundraiser, raised with donations ranging from $250 to $500,000, should put any doubts to rest — yes, we are absolutely behind President Biden and Vice President Harris and we’re in this fight until the end," she wrote.Read the full post here.

'Is there no depth?' Ex-prosecutor shreds Trump's personal attack on judge's daughter
Mar 29, 2024
Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann took his time on MSNBC Wednesday to lay into former President Donald Trump for his mounting personal attacks on the family of Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing Trump's New York hush money trial — including unsubstantiated allegations about his daughter."Andrew, I cease to be able to be surprised, except that Donald Trump is now literally making up a story about Judge Merchan's daughter, posting about it, railing about it, naming her by name," said anchor Joy Reid. "And there's still nothing anyone can do to stop it?""It actually is something that could be stopped," said Weissmann. "There could be the gag order could apply to both the judge and the judge's family. And this is one where as a matter of grace, the judges have not imposed the gag order as to themselves. It reminds me when Amy Berman Jackson — Roger Stone had posted a picture with crosshairs next to her, and she said, you couldn't find another photo that didn't have that there? And judges, I think, bend over backwards, but it will be interesting to see whether Judge Merchan does expand it."ALSO READ: A neuroscientist reveals how Trump and Biden's cognitive impairments are different"But I would just like to step back to, it is true that you see this and you think, it's just Donald Trump. It's just Donald Trump. More of the same," Weissmann continued. "It is really important not to just normalize this. I mean, so many people talk about sort of predicting what would a Trump 2.0 administration be, and should we really think he's going to be a dictator and what will happen. And my response to that is, you can look right now at what he's doing and saying, and for people who are fair-minded, I would say, what do you say about somebody who attacks the daughter of a judge?""That's right," said Reid."I mean, is there no depth to which he will not descend?" Weissmann added. "It's so important to not get inured to what this is.""Yeah, and I mean the bottom line is the reason he's attacking Judge Merchan and his family is the same reason he attacks [special counsel] Jack Smith," said Reid. "They won't stop prosecuting him and he can't delay the trials anymore. He's found a way to even the delay the Georgia trial. They literally went after Fani Willis' relationship, that had nothing to do with the case. That did delay it. This is the one case he can't stop. He knows it's coming and therefore he's trying to personally destroy this man's family."Watch the video below or at the link. 'Trump is in a difficult position': Ex-defense secretary explains how Biden can 'dominate'
Mar 27, 2024
In order for Joe Biden the candidate to stay put as president, he must own April and all of autumn. For the next couple months, while Donald Trump will likely be defending himself in a Manhattan criminal court against charges he manufactured a hush-money scheme to silence porn star Stormy Daniels to help him win the White House — former Defense secretary and CIA director Leon Panetta thinks it opens up a chance for President Joe Biden to up his ground game and go on the offensive. "I think it's a critical moment here," he said during an interview on CNN. "I think Trump is in a difficult position. He's gonna be going into a trial; he's not able to go out and do a lot of campaign events." ALSO READ: A criminologist explains why half of America does not care about Trump's crimes Trump's sidelining could end up being Biden's gain. "This is a moment where a Joe Biden can basically dominate in the campaign arena," Panetta said. "So it is important that he get out to the country. It's important that they well-planned these campaign events to make sure that they are successful and that he continues to fundraise; all of those things are critical to his ability to be able to lay the groundwork for a strong campaign in the fall." The 45th president was indicted last year on 34 felony counts for covering up an alleged affair with Daniels by paying out a six-figure sum through his former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen (who was convicted in the scheme and served prison time) as political cover 12 days before the 2016 presidential election, which he won. The timing of the alleged incidents was critical since Trump was already reeling from the release of the infamous "Access Hollywood" hot mic video that had the real estate tycoon suggesting grabbing women's privates was acceptable if you're a big shot celebrity like him. The trial, set to begin jury selection on April 15, marks the first time a former president is being tried on criminal charges. Trump has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty. Panetta made clear Biden has to mount an effective messaging strategy that stands on some of the foundations that landed him the presidency as Nov. 5 nears. "That messaging has to be about health care, about the Affordable Care Act that messaging has to be about the economy and what needs to be done to make sure we continue to improve the economy that messaging has to obviously deal with reproductive rights which is a critical issue."Watch below or click the link here.

'Policing the rhetoric': Former DA says hush money judge is Trump's perfect foil
Mar 26, 2024
Donald Trump may be a stable genius, but Judge Juan Manuel Merchan is proving to be the stable hand who might be the former president's perfect foil. That'a according to to Miriam “Mimi” Rocah, a seasoned prosecutor with hours logged in both New York and Westchester counties, who appeared Monday on CNN's "Out Front" to laud the New York City jurist overseeing Trump's criminal hush money case. As proof, Rocah pointed to Merchan's handling of Trump's lawyers accusations, levied against prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney's office, of misconduct. "That's so serious, for any lawyer, but especially prosecutors," Rocah said. "That, according to the judge, was not warranted."Merchan played the cornerman for the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg over accusations linked documents handed over by the Manhattan federal prosecutor's office, Rocah argued. While Trump's attorneys demanded delay or even dismissal over the alleged "widespread misconduct" of failing to quickly pass the documents, along, Bragg's office said they did their due diligence. ALSO READ: Here's why conservative elites are bailing on Trump nowTrump's attorneys may have pointed fingers at the prosecutors in Trump's hush money case — in which the former president has pleaded not guilty to falsifying business records to hide alleged payments made to Stormy Daniels — but Merchan gave them a hat tip, Rocah noted. Specifically, Merchan refused to delay the case and set a court date of April 15. "This judge, who really calls balls and strikes, said 'In fact, I think the D.A.'s office here seems to have gone above and beyond,'" Rocah said. "They've not only fulfilled their obligations under the law, but they went beyond that."Rocah took Merchan's admonishment of Trump's attorneys as a sign that he'll push back when the case comes to trial. "That is part of a judge's job," Rocah said "to police, if you will, the rhetoric and accusations that get thrown around in heated cases."Watch the video below or click here.

Georgia judge sets hearing to consider dismissing Trump case on free speech grounds
Mar 25, 2024
A Georgia judge has set a Thursday hearing to consider dismissing a conspiracy case against Donald Trump on First Amendment grounds. On Monday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ordered the hearing for March 28. McAfee is expected to consider motions from Donald Trump and other defendants in an election interference case. Trump's motion asked the court to dismiss the case based on his First Amendment right to free speech. McAfee has dismissed two similar motions by co-defendants Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell. Both co-defendants later pleaded guilty. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Trump would have to admit that his claims about the 2020 election being rigged were false to pursue a First Amendment defense. ALSO READ: A criminologist explains why half of America does not care about Trump's crimes "Here, the indictment's recitation of supposedly 'false' statements and facts, undisputed solely for purposes of a First Amendment-based general demurrer/motion to dismiss, show that the prosecution of President Trump is premised on content-based core political speech and expressive conduct protected by the First Amendment," Trump attorney Steven Sadow argued in a court filing. Sadow asserted that the remedy for false speech "is speech that is true … not a state (racketeering) prosecution against the former president of the United States." The Fulton County case focuses on efforts to overturn the election results in which Trump was defeated by Democrat Joe Biden. Specifically, officials in Georgia, including Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, have scrutinized a series of actions and communications by Trump and his allies aimed at influencing the state's election outcome. A pivotal moment in the investigation was a January 2021 phone call made by Trump to Georgia's Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger. During this call, Trump suggested that Raffensperger "find" enough votes to reverse Biden's narrow victory in the state.
