Butter Nails Belong on Your Spring Mood Board
Mar 20, 2024
Image Source: Getty/ Edward Berthelot / Contributor Be prepared to take your obsession with butter - yes, butter - to new heights. On March 18, celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik posted a picture to Instagram of one the many looks he's done on Selena Gomez. "Trend alert: Butter Manis for Spring," he captioned the photo, in which you can see the singer's nails painted a soft, buttery hue. The pastel yellow shade is perfect for spring and that's exactly why the duo chose it. "The inspiration behind the look was Selena suggesting a happy color," Bachik tells PS. "The butter yellow manicure will definitely be hot for spring." As for the nail shapes that look best with a butter manicure, Bachik has a favorite. "My signature soft, round shape is perfect for this trend," he says. "The longer, the better." To get the look Bachik used the Tweezerman & Tom Bachik Nail Care Travel Set ($29) to perfect the shape of the nail, followed by two coats of Mia Secret's Gelux Gel Polish ($13) in Butter. While your nail art preferences are your own, Bachik does suggest keeping it simple for this look. "A little shimmer never hurts anyone, although I do think the color speaks for itself," he says. You know what they say: know the rules to break them, so if you're more of a maximalist who likes 3D designs, Baroque motifs, and more, feel free to let your creative juices run wild. Take a closer look at Gomez's manicure below. View this post on Instagram A post shared by 𝙏𝙤𝙢 𝘽𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙠 Nails (@tombachik) Ariel Baker is the assistant editor for POPSUGAR Beauty. Kate Middleton's Health Is None of Your Business
Mar 12, 2024
Since Kensington Palace announced Kate Middleton would temporarily pause her royal duties following a planned abdominal surgery in late January, rumors have been swirling about the Princess of Wales's whereabouts and health. The speculation only got worse when the family released a photo of Middleton with her children on March 10, which they have since confirmed was digitally altered. Conspiracy theorists and well-intentioned folks alike grew more curious about her medical condition. While the palace rightfully faces questions and concerns about its handling of the matter, frankly, Middleton's health is no one's business but hers and her family's. Middleton shouldn't be expected to open up about her health just because she's a public figure. Amid the speculation, there's been much demand for Middleton to make a public appearance or the palace to share details of her medical condition. Sure, it's fair for people to have questions - especially given the PR mystery surrounding the doctored photo - but Middleton shouldn't be expected to open up about her health just because she's a public figure. While celebrities like Christina Applegate and Selena Gomez have shown the value of sharing their medical journeys, particularly with rare or stigmatized diseases like multiple sclerosis and lupus, respectively, no one should feel compelled to disclose anything about their health. Perhaps Middleton will share more about hers at a later date - but she shouldn't have to. Moreover, in its original statement, the palace stated that the princess had a "successful" surgery and was expected to remain in the hospital for up to two weeks before returning home to continue her recovery. It added that she would be "unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter," which is on March 31. Since it's not yet Easter, and there have been no other medical updates from Middleton and the palace, speculating beyond what they're willing to share feels inappropriate. She's clearly asked for privacy during this time, and while many may argue that celebrities lose this right as public figures, they certainly deserve it when it comes to their health. The constant theories and conjecture even feel potentially harmful, considering the media's history with the women of the royal family. Meghan Markle has said she stepped away from royal duties because of Buckingham Palace's unwillingness to protect her, Prince Harry, and their children from negative and often racist press coverage. And Princess Diana's tragic death has long been linked to the paparazzi's relentless pursuit of the royal. In this case, it seems Kensington Palace is attempting to protect Middleton by controlling the narrative, but she still faces undeniable and outsized scrutiny from the media and the public. Let this be a reminder that we shouldn't gossip about anyone's health - even public figures. Let Middleton recover in peace. Taylor Swift Gives Fans ‘Permission to Fail' During Bejeweled Appearance at 2023 IHeartRadio Awards
Mar 27, 2023
There’s a blank space in Taylor Swift‘s tour schedule for good reason. The “Lavender Haze” singer—who is currently in the throes of the U.S. leg of her Eras Tour—stepped back from the stage for one evening to attend the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 27. For the ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Swift made our wildest dreams come true when she arrived wearing a glittering hooded ensemble. The 33-year-old received the 2023 iHeartRadio Innovator Award, of which past honorees include Alicia Keys, Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake, to name a few. “I never a single time woke up in the morning and thought, ‘You know what I’m going to do today? I’m going to go innovate some stuff. Things need to be innovated and I’m going to be the one that does it,'” Swift shared onstage. “But what I did do was try to make the right decision for me at the time, whether or not it had ever been successfully done before.” Taylor Swift’s Stunning The Eras Tour Stage Costumes She continued, “I think maybe that might be the key, because often times, in any industry, people are looking for a precedent or, you know, data that shows this idea is a good one or a feasible one. People want an example of something working before. But I think the coolest ideas or moves or choices are the new ones, the ones that set a new precedent.” Swift then thanked her fans who have “backed me up” in her decisions, including her choices to switch genres and re-record her old music. She ended by offering an inspiring message to her younger fans on the lessons of failure. “I really really want everyone to know, especially young people, that the hundreds or thousands of dumb ideas that I’ve had are what led me to my good ideas. You have to give yourself permission to fail,” she shared. “I try as hard as I can not to fail, because it’s embarrassing, but I do give myself permission to and you should, too. So go easy on yourselves and just make the right choices that feel right for you.” An iHeartRadio press release, published March 7, noted that Swift has “created music that for years has topped the charts at multiple formats, while creating groundbreaking tours, including 2019’s Reputation Stadium Tour the highest-grossing US tour in history… and 2023’s The Eras Tour, which broke records for single-day ticket sales.” Not to mention, as the streaming service noted, her single, “Anti-Hero” is currently the most played song across iHeartRadio platforms. But it’s more than just Swift’s music as to the reason why this particular award belongs with her. “Along with her artistic success, Taylor’s generosity and philanthropy have inspired millions,” the press release shared. “She’s an advocate for women’s rights and the LGBTQ+ community, using her music and platform to inspire young people to use their voting power.” Swift’s big honor comes just days after she returned to the stage for her first tour since 2018. The Grammy winner kicked off her new concert series with her first show in Glendale, Arizona, on March 17, performing 44 songs spanning her nearly two decade career—including “Shake It Off, “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “Blank Space.” She’s still set go out in style on stage over the next few months in several cities including Atlanta, Los Angeles, Houston and Chicago, among others.
